Fitna – the movie
Somewhere between now and April 1st Dutch politician Geert Wilders will put his movie “Fitna” on the internet. As much as I want to see if all the fuzz that has been going for months was really worth it, I am not looking forward to it.
I’m afraid of fights, schools, churches and mosks being burnt down. I’m afraid that Wilders will end up the same way as Pim Fortuyn and Theo van Gogh, and I really wouldn’t want that!! Nobody deserves to die for what he says.
I wonder why someone would feel the need to offend people the way van Gogh did and Wilders is doing now. Offending people never solved any problem! It only made things worse!
In stead, befriending people helps. Brother Andrew shows that in the book I’m reading. He has made friends with Hamas leaders, Hisbollah people, gave a children’s Bible as a present for Arafat’s daughter, and I could go on!! Does he do anything to hide his Christian beliefs? No!!! In fact, he tells them that Jesus is the only “roadmap” to peace, and they love him for it.
In the book Brother Andrew tells about a day that he gave a lecture at the Islamic (!!) University in Gaza, where he clearly explained the Gospel. One year later, when he visited the University again, a young man approached him. He told him that he listened to Andrew’s lecture the year before and that he had really enjoyed it!!
As other normal people, muslims want to be left in peace. They don’t like to be offended, just as we don’t like to be offended. Therefore I want to urge Geert Wilders not to publish Fitna. It’s not too late!! You can still turn around, and try to bring your message in a more peaceful way!!
