Unmiraculous miracles
I haven’t been writing for a week. It was a pretty hectic week, so I wasn’t able to add my daily dosage to the blog. But here I am again!
This afternoon I listened to a podcast of the radio-show “In the studio with Michael Card”. This is a great show with singer/songwriter Michael Card, who appears also to preach and write books! In the show Michael sings songs and talks with guests. It’s a very nice show with lots of things to meditate about after listening.
Anyway, what I wanted to tell you is something I heard on this show. The show was broadcasted at Easter and contains the recording of a sermon that Michael Card preached in Havana, Cuba, a few years ago. He preaches about the ways Jesus performed miracles when He was on this earth. The message is that Jesus often did miracles in unmiraculous ways. Examples are the making of wine from water, in Cana and the story of the 5 breads and 2 fishes. Nothing exciting or mysterious happened, but it “just happened”!
Then MIchael spoke about the crucifixion. This is a part of the sermon where the goozbumps ran up and down my spine. The unmiraculous miracle here was that there was no miracle!! Jesus was able to come down from the cross, angels could have come to rescue Him!! But nothing happened! The reason for this was that Jesus chose to die for us! Michael said: “He humbled Himself and became obedient to death, even death on a cross.”
Wow!
