Spirit and fruit
12May08
Today is Whit Monday. On Whit we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Jesus´ disciples.
One of the best known text about the Holy Spirit is undoubtedly Galatians 5:22: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control.
Sometimes when this Bible verse is being preached about, people tend to emphasize that we should strive for the fruit, or try to “grab” it.
But do you know what the most important feature of fruit is? It just grows! Fruit is the result of a growing tree, or of good nourishment by people. The fruit of the Spirit is the result of a life with God and walking daily with the Spirit. It’s not something we create ourselves!
