Was Jesus rich?
Some time ago I heard an American preacher, well-known for his prosperity teachings, say that Jesus was surely very rich!! His argument was that it would have been impossible to keep the twelve disciples with him day and night, feed them, clothe them etc. And then all the other people that were constantly around Him!
I have always thought that this couldn’t be true, but didn’t have good arguments for my thought. Yesterday I read a chapter in the book “40 days Living the Jesus Creed”. Scot McKnight mentioned the text in Lucas 8:3: “Joanna, Susanna, and many others had also used what they owned to help Jesus and his disciples.” A note that I found on this verse says: “Women often helped Jewish teachers by giving them money.”
So, Jesus wasn’t rich, but was being supported by others! I think there are other arguments that support my view as well. But at least I have one argument!
