Healing and Word-faith (1)
In my last blog I mentioned a few topics I was thinking about. One of the things was the serious illness of a friend and what to think about healing.
This is a topic that I want to explore in some more detail. I know that many books have been written from several points of view, so I don’t have the ambition to have the final answer or to be complete in my arguments. I’m just a guy wrestling with the topic of healing. I want to think out loud and make my readers part of this.
One of the first things that came to my mind is the so-called “Faith-Healing” or “Word Faith” movement. This movement says that if you believe in something and keep declaring it, it will happen. To me this sounds like magic. If you say the magic word, the thing you say will happen.
This brings about many questions, like what happens when you don’t heal? The consequence would be to say that you didn’t have enough faith. This would mean that healing depended on yourself. Is that a Biblical thought? I don’t think so. Another thing is that if God would heal you on the basis of your faith and words, God could be manipulated into doing something for you. I also don’t think this is Biblical. The Bible says that God is sovereign.
In conclusion I think that healing is not something we can claim. More on this later.
